Frequently Asked Questions
Can I purchase an original artwork?
Currently, John O'Keefe Jr. is not selling original artworks. However, this is only sometimes the case, so please check back periodically, or sign up for the O'Keefe Arts Newsletter and get a notification when an original artwork is available for sale.
What is Giclee on canvas?
"A Giclee is, in fact, an 'art print,' but Giclee prints stand apart with their extremely high quality, longevity, and value compared to a standard print." ~ Google.
O'Keefe Arts uses Epson UltraChrome Inks for Giclee reproductions on Canvas. We use the highest quality canvas mounted traditionally onto standard precision-cut stretcher bars. Each canvas reproduction comes coated with a UV-protective finish.
What is Giclee on paper?
"A Giclee is, in fact, an 'art print,' but Giclee prints stand apart with their extremely high quality, longevity, and value compared to a standard print." ~ Google.
O'Keefe Arts uses Epson UltraChrome Inks for Giclee reproductions on paper, and we use only the highest-grade paper. All paper reproductions come with a 1-inch minimum white border.
How do you care for a Giclee?
DO NOT place the Giclee face on any object or surface to avoid damaging the printed image. Also, do not set items on top of the artwork. Keep handling to a minimum during hanging, and hold only from the sides.
It's recommended that you DO NOT hang your Giclee in direct sunlight. At present, only Giclee on canvas comes with UV protective coatings.
It's recommended that you keep your Giclee in a relatively controlled environment. Repeated exposure to extreme or sudden changes in humidity and temperature can harm the longevity of your artwork surface and substrate materials.
DO NOT wash printed surfaces with water, damp cloths, or solvents. We recommend using a clean, dry soft cloth to wipe off dust and dirt gently. Using a light-colored or white fabric will let you see when too much dust and dirt have been picked up - Avoid cleaning with a dirty cloth.
Note: For Giclee on Canvas only, gently wiping the printed surface with a soft, dampened cloth is acceptable, and it is recommended to do this only when necessary. Do not use solvents on Canvas reproductions.
What is a Certificate of Authenticity?
Each Giclee reproduction includes an envelope containing your official Certificate of Authenticity and a care instruction sheet with a warranty disclaimer.
Each Certificate of Authenticity lists the edition type (i.e., "limited edition" or "open edition"), a printing method (i.e., "Giclee"), materials used to create the reproduction, and information about the original artwork.
Each reproduction is assigned a unique registration number. Affixed to the rear of the reproduction is an identification sticker that is printed with the O'Keefe Arts logo, the original painting title, and the unique registration number.
Each certificate is personally signed by John, verifying the authenticity of the reproduction. O'Keefe Arts recommends keeping your certification packet in a safe and secure environment.
Who photographs your original artwork?
O'Keefe Arts utilizes in-house photography using our equipment, and we outsource to local professional photographers.
Do you edit your digitized artwork?
O'Keefe Arts utilizes in-house equipment and digital editing software, and we outsource to local professional graphic designers.
Do you print your own Giclees?
O'Keefe Arts works directly with printing businesses and is thus able to ensure consistent, high-quality reproductions. All original artworks and paintings are photographed using state-of-the-art scanning equipment and digital cameras. The captured digital images are professionally processed, resulting in high-quality Giclee reproductions that are incredibly accurate copies of the original works of art.
Working directly with the printer, John O'Keefe Jr. oversees, provides direction, and approves all work performed during each reproduction's initial development and setup processes.
As a final step, John reviews, assembles, signs, and numbers each of his reproductions.
O'Keefe Arts is continually looking at advancements and upgrades in printing technology and availability.
Are your website colors true to life?
We have done our very best to represent the colors of our Giclees so that the product you receive will closely match what you see displayed on our website. However, there are some reasons why you might notice slight variations.
Due to the variable display types and video settings available on smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers, we cannot guarantee that what your device displays will exactly match the Giclee.
Also, the light source you use to view your Giclee can change the appearance of the Giclee, i.e., An incandescent bulb will cast a warmer tone over the Giclee, whereas a fluorescent bulb will cast cooler tones.
How long do Giclee orders take?
All Giclee prints are made-to-order and take 14 to 28 days to complete from the time of purchase.
Generally speaking, Giclee on paper has a shorter printing and drying time than Giclee on canvas, which needs to be mounted onto stretcher bars and then receives an application of a protective UV coating. In contrast, Giclee on paper is typically mounted behind protective UV glazing when framed.
